Programs & Events

Concert in the Park -- at City Park (500 West Park Avenue) from 6:30-9:30pm. Free concerts series performed on the first Friday evening of the month at the Large Pavilion in City Park. Come enjoy a variety of music. Coolers and food are welcome.

Series line-up includes:
May 3 - Crossfire will perform current pop, classic rock and Motown
June 7 - Fanfare Entertainment will perform a variety of music from new country to pop, Motown and Jazz
July 5 - Steve Leslie Band will play a variety of music
August 2 - Paul Cockrum Trio will perform classic rock
September 6 - 8 Track will perform oldies and classic rock

Lawn Chair Movie Night -- at City Park (500 West Park Aveunue) starting at dark. Free movie series held on the third Friday evening of the month in the large grassy area next to the Large Pavilion. The movie series is free and family friendly. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, food and coolers! All friends of the community are invited. 
In the event of rain, the movie will be pulled under the Large Pavilion.

May 17 - Ralph Breaks the Internet at 8:15pm
June 21 - Small Foot at 8:45pm
July 19 - The House With A Clock In Its Walls at 8:30pm
August 16 - Dumbo at 8:15pm
September's movie (Field of Dreams) will be held at Veterans Memorial Park on Saturday, September 21 at 8pm in conjunction with Twilight Vintage Base Ball

FD Design_FrontFounder's Day Festival - 40 Years of Fun: June 1, 2019 -- at  City Park (500 West Park Avenue) the first Saturday in June from 7:30am-midnight. A celebration featuring a fun 5k/10k run/walk, craft booths, 3 on 3 basketball tournament, BBQ Contest, children's activities/games, food/beverages and music. Music entertainment will last until midnight.

The World's Largest Swimming Lesson & Pool Party: June 20, 2019 -- at Splash -n- Swimplex (375 West Park Avenue) from 7-9pm. UPRD is making a huge splash to spread the word that Swimming Lessons Save Lives.™ Don’t miss the chance to participate in The World's Largest Swimming Lesson (WLSL) event to help prevent drowning, which is the second leading cause of injury-related death of children ages 1-14. Doors open at 7:00pm and the swim lesson will begin at 7:30pm. Water wings are not allowed, but parents can bring a life vest for weak or non-swimmers. Be sure to wear sunscreen! After the 30 minute lesson concludes, families are encouraged to stick around for the pool party! There will be lemonade, cupcakes and water fun until 9:00pm! Feel free to bring your own pool toys! This is a family event, so children (0-14) must be accompanied by (and participating with) a minimum of one parent/guardian.

The event is free for families, but UPRD is requesting a can food donation at the door to support the local food pantry. Registration is required and MUST be completed by Monday, June 17!

4th of July (1)Union Firework Festivities: July 3, 2019 -- at Veterans Memorial Park (600 Progress Parkway). The display will ignite at approximately 9:30pm . Food, drinks and adult beverages will be offered for purchase beginning at 5:00pm. Facepainter and balloon artists will start getting creative at 5:30pm . Garden Party Band will take the stage under the Lake Pavilion at 6:30pm to play great California Country Rock, Oldies, Classic Country, Classic Rock, and fun music. Be sure to stick around after the fireworks to hear the band play until 10:30pm. Bring lawn chairs, blankets and yard games to make an evening of it at the park! The event is sponsored by the City of Union and Sons of American Legion Squadron 297. Check back frequently for addtional information for the 2019 event.

Doggie Day at the Pool: August 2019 -- at Splash-n-Swimplex (375 West Park Avenue) from 6pm-8pm. Dog days of summer getting you down? Bring man’s best friend and come cool off in our beautiful pool. Owners are responsible for cleaning up any accidents (both liquid and solid). Dogs must be accompanied by an adult and keep collar or harness on at all times. Guests may use punch card for this event. Fee is $4/pup with a maximum of two pups per adult handler. More information to follow at a later date for the 2019 event.

Vintage Baseball_2018Twilight Vintage Base Ball & Movie: September 21, 2019 -- at Veterans Memorial Park (600 Progress Parkway) from 5pm-10pm. Come out to witness base ball as it was in the 1860's. Two St. Louis vintage base ball teams will faceoff at this FREE community event. Concessions will be available for purchase. Be sure to bring a chair or blanket to enjoy the show! After the game, Field of Dreams will be showing on the big screen at the field starting at 8pm.

Boo Bash!: October 25, 2019 -- at the Large Pavilion in the City Park (500 West Park Avenue). Join Union Parks & Recreation Department (UPRD) and Union Area Chamber of Commerce for the Annual Boo Bash! This is a free family community event. Children of all ages must be supervised by parent/guardian at all times.

The Chamber will host the Children's Costume Contest under the Large Pavilion, for kiddos ages 10 and under. Prizes are awarded to the following age categories: newborn-1, 2-4, 5-7, 8-10, and Group/Family. The more creative the better! Pre-registration is not required, just be under the pavilion no later then 6pm, because the contest will start promptly at 6:15pm. Stick around for UPRD's Trunk-or-Treat! Activities include trick-or-treating, hay rides and refreshments.


Is your business interested in sponsoring the Children's Costume Contest or pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters at Boo Bash? More information to follow at a later date for the 2019 event.

CATCH & KEEP - Winter Trout Fishing Program: February 1 - October 31, 2019
-- at Union’s City Lake (502 Clark Avenue)


Union City Lake angler regulations for specie with daily limit and length limit are as follows:
1) Largemouth Bass, daily limit: 2, length limit: 18” minimum
2) Catfish, daily limit: 4, length limit: none
3) Trout from November 1 – January 31 is CATCH & RELEASE ONLY; NO TROUT may be possessed!
4) Trout from February 1 – October 31, daily limit: 4, length limit: none
5) All other fish, daily limit: statewide, up to 10 in the aggregate, length limit: none

*November 1 through January 31 - only 1 pole/person; artificial flies and lures ONLY; no natural or prepared baits.
*February 1 through October 31 - maximum of 3 poles/person may be used; no restrictions on bait; must stop fishing for all species after having 4 trout in possession.
*Pole and line fishing only
*No live bait may be taken.
*Frogs may be taken during the statewide season by hand, handnet, gig, or hook and line.
*All anglers age 16 through 64 must have a permit.
*Anglers must have a trout permit to possess trout.

Children's Christmas Party: December 6, 2019
-- at Union City Auditorium (500 East Locust Street), for kids 10 & under. Doors open immediate following the parade, at approximately 6:30pm. Bring your family to this fun & free event! There will be refreshments, face painting, a balloon sculptor, picture's with Santa Claus (bring your own camera) and every child (10 & under) will receive a gift. Please bring a can food donation to help stock the food pantry for the holiday's. More information to follow at a later date for the 2019 event.

Deck the Halls Contest: December 2019 -- Let’s celebrate the holidays with decorating the town thiswinter season! Enter your holly-jolly, bright & cheerie home, business or organization in the contest! More information to follow at a later date for the 2019 event.

Valentines Dinner & Comedy Show: February 8, 2020 -- at Union's City Auditorium (500 East Locust Street) from 6pm-12am. Join us for the 18th annual event that is sure to have a lot of laughs! Comedians TBA. This adult-only event will open at 6pm. Tickets include dinner, comedy show, rose (for the ladies) and dance. Cash bar will be available, no outside beverages allowed. Guests must be 21 or older to attend. Tickets will go on sale in December 2019.

For tickets, stop in the Park Office in the lower level of City Hall, located at 500 E. Locust Street.

Rummage_SaleRummage Sale: March 7, 2020 -- at Union's City Auditorium (500 East Locust Street) from TBA. The fee for a table is TBA per table. Sellers get an eight foot by two and a half foot table to display as many items that can fit on or under the table. Set-up will begin at 6:30am the morning of the event. Sellers are required to stay set-up and onsite for the entire event, until end of the event. UPRD will place ads in the local papers, display signs, plus post on numerous social media sites prior to the event. Food, drinks, bake goods, commercial products, weapons, etc. are not permitted at the sale. UPRD reserves the right to refuse any item for sale that is inappropriate. Sellers are responsible for making change and collecting money for the sale of their own items. Bargain hunters will not want to miss this sale! Admission will only be one dollar for all ages! Kite Fest: April 2020

Breakfast with the Easter Bunny: April 10, 2020 -- at City Park's Large Pavilion (575 North Christina Avenue) from 9am-11am. Breakfast will begin at 9am and the Egg Hunt will begin promptly at 10am. This special event provides families with kiddos (ages 1-7 years old) time to enjoy breakfast, pictures with the Easter Bunny and an egg hunt. Guests are asked to bring a camera for photos and a basket for goodies. The hunt will be divided by age groups (1-3, 4-5 & 6-7). Three prizes per age group will be up for grabs. Breakfast will include donuts, milk and juice. The event will occur rain or shine. Cost is $2 per person. Parent/guardian must have ticket and supervise their child(ren) at all times. Both residents and non-residents are welcome.

Tickets must be purchased in advance at the park office, located in the lower level of City Hall at 500 East Locust Street. On sale ticket date will follow at a later date for the 2020 event.
