From horseshoes, volleyball and pickleball to yoga, have some fun and get fit too this spring.  


Horseshoe League in Union

Work on those ringers, because it is time for the adults to have some fun at the horseshoe pits! Registration is open for the Union Parks & Recreation Department (UPRD) Adult Mixed Horseshoe League. League is open to resident and non-resident adults that are 21 years or older. The league is non-sanctioned with no handicaps. 

Games will be held starting at 6pm on Tuesday evenings at the Fairgrounds, located at 611 Jaycee Drive, Union, Missouri 63084. The number of games will depend on the number of teams registered. Season will tentatively run from April 9 through October 29 with a one (1) night tournament at the end. League will not be held on June 4 and June 11. League fee is $5/person/night with up to 8 players on the roster. Completed rosters are due at the time of registration. Registration deadline is Tuesday, April 9.

According to the United States of American Pickleball Association (USAPA), participation has increased from 60,000 to 2.8 million players from 2010 to 2018. Interested in learning more about the quickly growing sport of pickleball? Now is the perfect time to come take a lesson and see what this new sport is all about. Beginner lessons are being offered through Union Parks & Recreation Department (UPRD) at City Park Tennis Courts, located at 400 North Christina Street. Dates and times are as follows; April 1, 4, 8 & 10 from 5:30-6:30, April 12 from 4:30-5:30, 5:30-6:30 and 6:30-7:30.

The lessons are open to both residents and non-residents for a cost of $4 per person per lesson. Balls and paddles will be provided. Lessons will be taught by Mandy Corum, UPRD Recreation Coordinator. A minimum of four participants are required to hold the lesson and the maximum participants per lesson allowed will be eight. Be sure to sign-up and join the fun!



Spring into Fitness

Union Parks & Recreation Department (UPRD) is partnering with Lifeforce Fitness to offer a variety of wellness classes this spring. Classes include Yoga, Adventure Out Playground, Kardio Kick and Dancer-cize. All classes are held in the city’s aerobics room, located in the Lower Level of City Hall, at 500 East Locust Street, Union, 63084. Participants are asked to enter the side door located near the corner of Linden Street and East Springfield Avenue.

Morning Yoga allows participants to gain flexibility, tone muscles, and enjoy the flow of breath within the body.  Develop a mind, body, and spirit connection and awaken oneself to a more relaxed and efficient lifestyle. Participants are asked to bring a mat.Class is offered on Mondays from 9:30-10:15am from 4/8 – 5/6/19. Class will not meet on 4/22/19.

Yoga is similar to the other yoga class, except this class will include the theory of Yoga, plus exercises and breathing techniques. Participants are asked to bring a mat. Class is offered on Tuesdays from 6:30-7:30pm from 4/16 – 5/7/19.

Kardio Kick is a fast-paced workout packed with punches and kicks that will get your heart pumping. High-powered moves will build your confidence while making your sweat. Work your way to a healthier and stronger you. Class is offered on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30pm from 4/10 – 5/1/19.

Morning Dancer-cizeis a upbeat class that is a great way to get ready for weekend-fun . Combinations of cardio-dance movements with some muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility thrown in for good measure. All performed to motivating music of course! Class is offered on Thursdays from 9:30-10:15am from 4/18 – 5/9/19.

Adventure Out Playground isa new class adaptable for all fitness levels and is open to the entire family. A continual mix of methods including: anaerobic circuits, explosive intervals, pyramid training, sports conditioning, strength and endurance. This will help boost the metabolic rate. Class will be held outside when possible using items surrounding us in our everyday lives. Come join us for an invigorating and adventurous playground workout! Class is offered from 6:30-7:15pm two days each week; Mondays from 4/8 – 5/6/19 or Thursdays from 4/11 – 5/2/19. Monday class will not meet on 4/22/19.

Series are four (4) weeks in length and cost $35 per series. All classes are suitable for all fitness levels and no previous experience required. Both city residents and non-residents are welcome to register. Pre-registration with payment is required one week before class starts.
